                                  A Short History of the Club



Founded in December 1946 when an inaugural meeting took place at
The Swan Hotel in Tunbridge Wells Kent. The twenty one persons attending
agreed to form the South Eastern Old English Sheepdog Club. The first
officers were appointed Mrs H. Shanks of the Pastel Blue kennels as
President, Miss Irene Webster and Mr H. Jones became Vice Presidents,
Mr H. Wright became Honary Secretary and Mr R. Matthews became
the Treasurer and Assistant Secretary, it was also voted that all the existing
members would form the committee.

In it’s early days the club was not in the position to hold shows of any kind,
but did Guarantee five classes at the local Edenbridge Show with the clubs
members providing Twenty eight specials. Further meetings were held on
grooming, handling and nutrition which after the war wasn't as easy as it is
today.

1948 saw the club hold it’s first show in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Thirteen members
agreed to guarantee equally to cover any losses that may of been incurred. October
1972 saw The Kennel Club grant permission for the club to hold it’s first Championship
show. The judge Was the late Miss Florence Tidly of the famous Shepton kennels,the
show was held at the Slough Community Centre in Buckinhamshire drawing an entry of
107 dogs. Our largest show Entry was in 1976 the judge was Mrs Betty Tidley (Gwehelog)
drawing an entry of 195 exhibits To the Slough Leisure Centre.

The club still holds two breed shows a year, one Open in February and a Championship
Show in October, it is the clubs policy to encourage emerging judges and are proud to have
Started a few on their judging careers.
